Accident Victim Recovers for Injuries Sustained in Collision with MTA Bus

On June 9, 2009, the plaintiff, a 48 year-old self-employed barber, was seriously injured in a collision with an MTA bus at the intersection of Utica Avenue and Flatlands Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. At the time of the accident, the bus was making a left turn and the plaintiff intending on proceeding straight through the intersection. A significant impact occurred causing several serious injuries to the plaintiff.

As a result of the accident, the plaintiff sustained a hip fracture which required surgery and eventually a total hip replacement. He also sustained a fractured arm and fractured ankle, both of which required surgical repair. The plaintiff also alleged damages for future medical treatment and costs for same as well as future lost wages for being unable to return to work as a barber due to his injuries.

Result: The case settled on October 25, 2011, for $3,000,000.
