FORKLIFT ACCIDENT PREVENTION
Forklifts: Accident Prevention Guide
Nearly 100 construction workers are killed and approximately 95,000 are injured every year in a power industrial truck accident. Forklift accidents account for a large number of these injuries and deaths.
Solutions:
- Certify and train all forklift operators
- Make sure all forklift operators are 18 or older
- Properly maintain haulage equipment
- Do not change or make attachments that alter the capacity and safe operation of the forklift without approval from the manufacturer
- Inspect forklifts for defects before use
- When moving, picking up, putting down or stacking loads, following safety procedures
- Do not exceed 5 mph when driving a forklift
- Slow down in slippery areas
- Do not lift loads that are heavier than the intended capacity of the forklift
- Do not use defective or unsafe forklifts
- Ensure all forklift operators wear seatbelts
- Use rollover protective structures
- Make sure that the reverse signal alarm works and can be heard above noise level
