SCARRING
Scarring resulting from a construction site injury can cause physical disfigurement and emotional trauma.
If you have suffered serious scarring as a result of a construction site accident, you may be entitled to compensation. A scar can cause permanent disfigurement that affect a construction worker's external appearance and cause emotional pain as well. Burns, lacerations, falls, construction site explosions, electrocution, and crush injuries can all result in scarring. Infections and surgeries required for knee injuries, back injuries, and neck injuries can also leave scars. A disfiguring scar may affect an individual's career opportunities, social life, and self-esteem.
There are three main types of scars:
- Keloid Scars: A keloid scar extends beyond the edges of the original injury. It may affect mobility.
- Hypertrophic Scars: A hypertrophic scar usually appears raised and red. It does not extend past the edges of the original injury.
- Contracture Scars: A contracture scar is the result of burned skin and may affect the nerves and muscles in the area. After a burn, the skin tightens and may impair mobility in the affected area.
